Nominations for the 2011 Murray & Roberts Jack Cheetham Award and the 2011 Murray & Roberts Letsema Award
Murray & Roberts, in partnership with the South African Sport Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) and Sowetan, is pleased to invite nominations for the 2011 Murray & Roberts Jack Cheetham Award and the 2011 Murray & Roberts Letsema Award.
The Awards recognise the character and ideals of Jack Cheetham – a former director of Murray & Roberts and captain of the South African cricket team in the 1950s – and contribute to the development of sport in South Africa.
The Jack Cheetham Award is for sports development projects in the able-bodied category and the Letsema Award targets sports development projects for people with disabilities.
To be eligible for nomination, a sports project must demonstrate a meaningful contribution to the development of sport in South Africa and it must benefit previously disadvantaged individuals.
Nominations must include:
- a short description of the project, with detail on how it has contributed to development and community upliftment
- the role of sport in the project and achievements to date
- the inspirational role of leadership in the project, including a specific example or examples of leadership
- future plans and goals and an explanation of how these will contribute to the sustainability of the project
Prizes amounting to R1,45 million will be awarded as follows:
Jack Cheetham Award:
- R500 000, payable over five years for the winner
- R150 000, payable over three years for the runner-up
- R75 000, payable over three years for the second runner-up
Letsema Award:
- R500 000, payable over five years for the winner
- R150 000, payable over three years for the runner-up
- R75 000, payable over three years for the second runner-up
New projects that have not yet been implemented will not be considered.
