| HONORARY DOCTORATE CONFERRED UPON BRIAN BRUCE |
| An Honorary Doctorate in Engineering (DEng, honoris causa) was conferred
upon Brian Bruce at a graduation ceremony by Stellenbosch University on 09
December 2004.
The citation for this honour recognises the role he has played as a civil engineer in the management of major and complex construction projects and the transformation of Murray & Roberts into a focused global player in the construction and engineering industry; for the manner in which he provides leadership in his profession and the industry and for his selfless dedication to share his time and expertise with the tertiary education sector; for his participation and leadership both internationally and domestically in many aspects of construction industry development, notably in South Africa as chairperson of the Inter-ministerial Task Team on Construction Industry Development that prepared the legislation for formation of the Construction Industry Development Board, of which he was appointed by Cabinet as its first chairperson. “Whereas Brian Cameron Bruce has proven beyond doubt that he possesses exceptional attributes of mind and character and has rendered exceptional service as a visionary civil engineer in the transformation of the SA construction industry and, through his exceptional leadership capacities in the development of the Civil Engineering Industry into one of the most important components of the general economy of the country, the Council and Senate of Stellenbosch University, in accordance with Act 101 of 1997, hereby confer upon him the degree" More Information: CHALLENGES OF TRANSFORMATION AND SOCIO-ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT: OUR SEARCH FOR RELEVANCE IN THE 21ST CENTURY - Brian Bruce |
