Sale of Infrastructure & Building businesses

On the 1st of November 2016, the Murray & Roberts Group announced the sale of the Murray & Roberts Southern African Infrastructure & Building (“I&B”) businesses, to a consortium led by the Southern Palace Group of Companies (“Southern Palace”). The transaction has created a world-class black-owned construction business of scale.

Southern Palace is a wholly black-owned and managed South African, diversified industrial holding company with interests in numerous well-established businesses.

The transaction came into effect on 5 May 2017 and allows the Murray & Roberts Group to focus its business on the oil & gas, metals & minerals, and power & water market sectors.

I&B is a leading infrastructure and building business, comprising nine divisions:

  • Murray & Roberts Buildings (Gauteng)
  • Murray & Roberts Western Cape
  • Murray & Roberts Infrastructure
  • Murray & Roberts Botswana
  • Murray & Roberts Plant
  • Murray & Roberts Developments
  • Concor Opencast Mining
  • Dynamic Concrete Solutions (Namibia)
  • Murray & Roberts share in the Medupi Civils Joint Venture
The Murray & Roberts Group’s investment in the Bombela Concession Company, Bombela Civil Joint Venture and Bombela Operating Company, as well as the operations in the Middle East, was excluded from the transaction. The Group has also retained the Dubai International Airport and Gautrain claims, as well as liabilities relating to the Grayston Temporary Works Collapse.

The I&B businesses will retain the use of the Murray & Roberts’ brand until a rebranding exercise is undertaken, which is expected in the near term.
