Dear Readers,

The 2005 financial year has passed and with it we have moved beyond the first five years of Murray & Roberts in the 21st Century. The months of July and August will be busy as we audit and finalise our accounts and prepare for our half-yearly engagement with our investment community. This is also the time that we refine the operating framework necessary for us to deliver our approved budget for the 2006 year ahead and establish the basis of our business plan performance over the next three years.

Rebuilding Murray & Roberts has been a huge success and for this I thank my board and executive colleagues, our many business partners and all our people. But this is a journey that does not end here. We have cast aside many aspects of our business that served no more than to confuse our thinking on the great potential inherent in our choice to pursue our destiny as a globally competitive engineering and construction group.

To both our clients and our investors, I believe we have enhanced our value in the market. There is still healthy trade in our shares at a premium of more than 700% to our low in 1999. We have secured the support of important clients in the award of major projects such as Dubai International Airport and now the Gautrain Rapid Rail Link between Johannesburg, Sandton, Tshwane and Johannesburg International Airport. We are well placed to secure key involvement in at least another two major projects for key clients.

The construction economy in South Africa looks to be the best we have experienced for thirty years, and has the potential to sustain growth and opportunity for at least the next ten years. This offers us the opportunity to get serious about many issues in our industry that have been on the back-burner for too long. These include skills training, technology research, leadership development, systems investment and true empowerment.

I see no reason why good news should not continue to flow for the foreseeable future. Our order book continues to grow with quality opportunity across all our business sectors. We have great leadership in place and continue to strengthen our operational executive teams to meet our challenge Globalising Murray & Roberts. Enjoy this edition of Robust.
