| Announcement by Group Chief Executive Brian Bruce |
|
I am pleased to advise the following appointments to the leadership of Murray &
Roberts Construction. These will take effect between 1 April 2006 and 30 June
2006.
Gordon Taylor (39) PrEng BSc (Eng) (elec) BCom as managing director, Charles Henwood (43) BCompt Hons CA (SA) as financial director, and David Monro (56) BSc (Eng) (civil) MBA as operations director – civils. We have taken this opportunity to rethink our construction strategy and prepare for a future that we last experienced through the 1970’s and 1980’s.There is every indication that the next 20 years will offer significant new opportunity to the engineering & construction sector in South Africa. This will be driven largely by Public Sector and Parastatal investment into primary infrastructure and services. Gordon’s engineering and commercial development was initially with Eskom and he spent a few years as construction and IT analyst with Merrill Lynch. He joined the Group as commercial director of Murray & Roberts Engineering Solutions before his current appointment 2 years ago as chief executive of the Group’s steel fabrication operations. Charles joined the Group as financial director of industrial building company RIBCO, succeeded to the same position in Murray & Roberts Buildings and was later appointed financial director of Murray & Roberts Construction. He was involved with the Group’s early concession projects after which he was appointed managing director of Murray & Roberts Concessions. More recently he has been Group financial manager in corporate office. David’s early career development was in the public sector. He has followed a diverse career, alternating between corporate responsibility and entrepreneurial enterprise. He has delivered consistent project and general management success during his time with Murray & Roberts and will bring experience, wisdom, strength and sound management to an increasingly important but distressed part of our business. I am also pleased to advise that Edwin Hewitt has accepted an increase in responsibility that adds Genrec and Hall Longmore to his current responsibility for Murray & Roberts MEI and Murray & Roberts Marine. These companies have many common disciplines where we are developing experience and capacity to engage the oil & gas and industrial engineering market in the future. Further appointments will be announced in this sector in due course. Edwin remains involved for the time being with Murray & Roberts Foundries Group and will also assume oversight of The UCW Partnership. Brian Bruce
