BAHRAIN TRAGEDY
Murray & Roberts and its partners worked together over the weekend to bring stability to a traumatic situation following the tragic accident in Bahrain last Thursday. We have to the extent possible, worked with both the survivors and the families of the deceased to deal with the consequences of the trauma.

The following is an updated report from our executive team in Bahrain.

  • Six trauma counsellors were mobilised from United Kingdom and South Africa to Bahrain and have engaged extensively with the survivors and next-of-kin;
  • Almost all death certificates have been issued by the Bahrain authorities;
  • The transport of the mortal remains of the deceased back to their next-of-kin will commence shortly and is expected to be completed by the end of the week;
  • The majority of survivors have lodged statements with the Bahrain authorities in terms of the official investigation into the accident;
  • A replacement project leadership team was mobilised to the World Trade Centre today but full production will commence only when it is deemed safe to do so;
  • Subcontractors, service providers and associate companies to the project have also commenced with the remobilisation of their management teams;

In addition

  • Contact has been maintained with the families of both the deceased and the survivors where they are resident outside of Bahrain;
  • The British and Bahrain governments have offered significant humanitarian and logistical support to all organisations and individuals affected by this tragedy.

Updates will be posted on the Murray & Roberts Website as soon as further relevant information becomes available.
