Last night Murray & Roberts released the names of seven of its ten employees who
lost their lives in Bahrain. The families of the deceased have, understandably,
expressed their wishes not to be contacted directly and to be shown due respect
in this time of grief.
The following information is made available by the families of some of the victims. No further personal information regarding the deceased or their families is available. Stephen Grady was 42 years old and a Finishes Manager on the World Trade Centre project in Bahrain. He joined the Murray & Roberts team on this project only four weeks ago. Stephen was born in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, England and leaves his wife, Stephanie who is five months pregnant, a 16 year old daughter and a 2 year old son. Stephanie describes Stephen as a wonderful father and husband, who was well liked by his colleagues and very popular amongst his friends. Lawrence Sulman, age 39, was the youngest of three children and is survived by his mother, Shirley, and his two older sisters. He was born in Johannesburg, South Africa and was working on a one year contract on the project in Bahrain. His elderly mother describes him as a very special person who supported her financially and looked after her in every way possible. She said that she has had numerous calls from his friends since his name was released last evening, all of whom describe Lawrence as a wonderful friend. Alan Jeppe was 51 years old and a Project Engineer for Murray & Roberts. He had worked for the company for more than 20 years. Alan was born in Cape Town where he spent most of his life. He is survived by his wife, Viki, 2 sons, aged 30 and 26, and a daughter aged 22. Alan’s wife, Viki, said that Alan was a loyal employee who was a perfectionist in everything he did, a very good father and a loving husband. Jimmy Allen was 59 years old and is survived by his wife, Pauline, and his son Carl, who is 39. He was born in Egerton England and had worked for Murray & Roberts for 23 years. He was contracted to the World Trade Centre project as Design Coordinator. Pauline describes Jimmy as a caring, loving husband and father who really enjoyed life. Commenting on the tragedy, Murray & Roberts Group Chief Executive Brian Bruce said, “We are in close contact with the bereaved families in Bahrain, South Africa and United Kingdom and with the survivors. Members of our senior team are in Bahrain to ensure that our people are given the best possible attention and care. This is a very difficult time for all of them and for us, and we trust that their request for privacy will be respected”. Details of the final three Murray & Roberts employees who died in the tragedy are as follows, all of whom are resident in Bahrain.
Regular updates will continue to be posted on the Murray & Roberts Website should further information become available. For further information contact: |
